Gottschalk, Louis Moreau - Signed Cabinet Photo 1869 HM - World Figures Ferruccio Busoni plays Liszt: CeAmerican composer and virtuoso pianist (18291869), born as the son of a Jewish businessman, Gottschalk is today considered one of the first figures in American music to attain an international reputation as a composer. Gottschalk spent most of his life abroad and died in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, at age 40. Rare cabinet photograph signed and inscribed by him on verso, dated in Rio de Janeiro on October 25th, 1869, less than 2 months before his death
